Statistics is a vital field -- creative, rapidly evolving, and necessary. We seek novelty and originality; we look to the future and its possibilities. We think as deeply as we can about hard problems that must be solved if the world is to progress.
In addition to inventing new analytic methodologies, we are dedicated to using existing methodologies in new ways, for new problems, and new data types. Statistical analyses help detect genes in humans and corn. Statistical analyses guide economics, drug discovery, and agriculture. Statistics appears wherever people gather data and try to make sense of it, no matter where they are in the world. The Department of Statistics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is committed to answering real questions, discovering new methods, and training the next generation of statisticians.
