Pavel Chernyavskiy joined the University of Wyoming faculty in Fall 2018. He came to the university after a 3-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics within the National Cancer Institute in Rockville, MD. 

At the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Chernyavskiy worked on applied and methodological projects in cancer epidemiology and population health surveillance. His methodological work focused on improving statistical models used in small-area estimation of relative risk and trends in the context of age-period-cohort analysis. For his applied projects he collaborated with epidemiologists to study the spatial extent of natural gamma radiation in the United Kingdom, as well as racial and geographic disparities in drug overdose deaths within the United States.
