1. What is UNL’s code for GRE and TOEFL scores?
The university code for sending GRE and TOEFL scores is 6877. No department code is needed.
2. If my TOEFL scores are older than two years can I submit them?
Our department and the graduate school require TOEFL scores to be no less than two years old.
3. Will you accept photocopies of TOEFL scores?
Our department will accept photocopies of TOEFL scores. The Graduate School
will not accept photocopies.
4. Can my application fee be waived?
No, the application fee cannot be waived.
5. I have not taken the GRE but have taken the GMAT. May I submit GMAT scores instead of GRE scores?
Our department and Graduate School do not require GRE scores.
6. How do I apply for funding?
Check the box on the departmental application form indicating you wish to be considered for an assistantship.
7. May I work on two graduate degrees at the same time?
Students are allowed to work on a Ph.D. and a Master’s Degree at the same time. They are not allowed to work on two Master’s Degrees at the same time.
8. Can you send me a paper application?
Graduate School applications are all online. If requested the Department will
send paper applications to those within the United States. Those outside the
United States are referred to the departmental website.
9. Can you mail me information about your department?
Information about our department can be found on the website. If requested the
department will send information to those within the United States.
10. How many international and domestic students do you accept every year?
Our department does not have quotas as to how many new international or domestic students we will accept. We usually have approximately 10-20 new students enroll every year.
11. Should I send faculty and staff my resume to see if I am qualified to apply for
your program?
No, generally such questions cannot be answered without actually looking at your
official application materials. Students should check our webpage for qualifications.
12. Should I email faculty and staff asking them to take me on as a research or teaching assistant?
No, faculty do not offer assistantships to applicants unless they are accepted to our department.
13. Could you please tell me when my application will be processed.
The deadline for spring applications is October 31st. To be considered for an assistantship, you should have your application in by October 15th.
The deadline for fall applications is June 15th. To be considered for an assistantship, you should have your application in by March 1st.
14. Will applications be accepted after the deadline?
No, late applications will not be accepted.
15. If my native language is not English, is it possible to waive the TOEFL under
any circumstance?
Yes, the TOEFL can be waived if a student has graduated from a US University or from a university that English is the official language of instruction with a bachelor’s or more advanced degree.
