Joining a statistical professional society allows one to learn more about the statistics discipline, find jobs, and network with other statisticians.  Some statistics professional societies are:

• Biometrics - Eastern North American Region (ENAR) - Biostatistics
• Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) - Mathematical statistics
