Careers in Statistics

Statistics as a discipline involves development and application of methods to collect, analyze and interpret data to further knowledge and to make decisions. Our M.S. program is good preparation regardless of whether you are interested in working as an M.S. level statistician in any of these areas or if you are interested in pursuing advanced graduate study in statistics or a related discipline beyond the M.S. level. Our Ph.D. program provides students strong training in the theory, methods and applications of statistics which are necessary in areas such as academia or industry where advanced post-graduate knowledge is required. Students who are interested in pursuing a M.S. degree in Statistics at UNL should have a good background in mathematics (a minimum of 3 semesters of calculus and one semester of linear algebra), at least one class in statistics and an interest in applications. Entrance requirements into the PhD program vary, but generally require an M.S. in Statistics or in some quantitative discipline
