Department of Statistics - Overview

Turning data into knowledge to solve real world problems

Overview of the Academic Programs in Statistics

Undergraduate Program

The Department of Statistics offers many courses in introductory statistics which are taken by a multitude of majors around UNL. In 2004-2005, our department began offering undergraduates the option of obtaining a Minor in Statistics. For more information go, please see our web page on the minor requirements.

Graduate Programs

The department offers a Master of Science in Statistics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics. Because of the departmental history, our degree programs have particularly strong roots in two areas:

We are in the process of developing a specialization in bioinformatics and statistics in sports. If you are interested in emphasizing these programs, please see their corresponding web pages.

These specializations are not limiting. We are a new department. As we grow, we expect to expand our range of opportunities to reflect the world’s changing needs. Our goal is to be a first rate statistics department, emphasizing applications, a program which both anticipates what society needs from the statistics discipline and a program that responds to those needs. A department’s graduate programs are among the best reflections of how well it is meeting these goals.
