About The Department of Statistics

Welcome to the website for the NEW Department of Statistics at the University of Nebraska! Exciting things are happening in statistics at Nebraska. On July, 1, 2003, UNL began the nation's newest Department of Statistics. The department merged what used to be the Department of Biometry, which was part of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR), and the statistics division of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, a part of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The department reports jointly to the Institute and to Arts and Sciences. The department maintains its traditional ties to research collaboration and consulting in agriculture, its strong ties to the Gallup Research Center for survey statistics, and to teaching a variety of statistical methods courses, graduate and undergraduate, to students throughout UNL. In addition, we are trying to be increasingly involved in research and teaching programs throughout the university to provide the strongest possible statistics infrastructure, one that is worthy of a first-class research university.

The department offers graduate degrees of a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics and an undergraduate minor in Statistics. Visit the Graduate Program and Undergraduate portion of our website to learn more. Beginning Fall semester, 2003, we have all new course listings. If you have been around UNL for a while, visit the course translator under Undergraduate or Graduate programs to see how courses have been renamed.
